The Rooms: Toddler Room
They still like their cuddles but are becoming adventurous!
Staffing Ratio: 1:3 for under twos and 1:4 for the over twos
Age range: 18 months - 2 1/2 years
This is an exciting place to be, with lots of activities going on there is never a dull moment. There is a maximum of 14 children in this room.
Each session in the Toddler Room consists of:
- Creatives - Painting, gluing, glitter and all the messy things kids love.
- Drawing - Colouring, stencils, worksheets, rubbings and cutting out
- Circle Time - A time to talk about body parts, animals, transport, colours and numbers
- Singing - Learning all our favourite nursery rhymes, playing instruments and using props to tell the stories
- Imaginative play - A variety of home corners rotated on a regular basis such as a hairdressers, the Post Office, shops and workshops
In the morning snack toast with different toppings (Marmite - do you love it or hate it?) and milk. Afternoon snack is a range of fresh and dried fruits, cheese and biscuits or vegetables. Dinner and tea time the children are encouraged to feed themselves with varying degrees of success! We cater for children with a range of allergies, special diets and food intolerance's.
A record of how much children have eaten, sleeps and activities is kept each day for parents to see.
The daily routine is on display along with a yearly planner. The yearly planner records the topics and themes for each week and these are always incorporated into the creatives and drawing sessions.
Display boards are changed regularly, usually one is changed every month, and where possible we use the children's work for the displays.
When children are ready for potty training we work closely with the parents to encourage and support the children. Once they have mastered these skills their level of awareness of themselves and things around them means they are ready to progress into the hustle and bustle of the Pre School Room. This usually happens at around the age of 2 1/2.
Weather permitting we get outside into the playground every day where a large number of big toys, trikes and bikes are available. In the summer we spend more time outside and even have whole sessions in the garden under the shaded canopy and usually involving the paddling pool and hose pipe!
