Notes
A little background information. I've been happily married for 28 years. We have two boys of 20 years and 16 years of age. They both attended Smisby Day Nursery from 1 years old.
I was first employed by Ian and Sheila when they bought the business in 2004, my position as Chef kept me busy in the kitchen whilst my eldest was busy in baby room! We were both happy in our day!
As life moved on and we added to our family, my career focus changed and like all parents, things evolve and we juggle children and work. I started my early years business in 2007 I welcomed children and parents to my messy play classes.
I returned to the Nursery, qualifying in early years, splitting my working hours between the kitchen and the rooms when required. Over the years I've racked up 10 years of service at the Nursery. My return in Feb 2023 added to this! One may say I'm a boomerang!
(Ed: You can say that again - We took a photo of Bev on her last day in 2015 holding a poster which said:
"Sentenced: 9th May 2004 Paroled: 28th April 2006
Re-offended
Sentenced: 31st August 2010 Paroled: 26th August 2015
Likelyhood of re-offending? 100% - serial offender!"
We were not wrong! - it is a delight to see Bev back - even as a repeat offender!)
But I see it as a career of progression, of opportunities to learn more and develop best practice. As my children got older I moved into schools starting at a locl High School as Academic Mentor, teaching Food and later moving into Textiles for KS3.
In 2018 I wanted to specialise and develop my knowledge in Special Educational Needs so found myself at a Special Educational Needs School in Leicestershire (ASD specialist school). I took on the role of Lead Food specialist, planning and delivering food lessons including GCSE to Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3 & Key Sstage 4 students. This included additional teaching commitments of GCSE Child Development and PSHEE. I throughly enjoyed my five years at Hardwick and learnt so much.
I'm so looking forward to my new role at Smisby Day Nursey. To work with super practitioners as we continue to offer a home from home approach to childcare where children can learn, create and express themselves through play whilst learning problem solving skills that will support them as they grow and flourish.
