Notes
Growing up the eldest of 5 children working with children was always my dream job.
Leaving school, I embarked on the NNEB course at Burton College, family circumstances meant I was unable to finish the course and I stated work at the soap factory in Ashby.
I met my husband David through colleagues, we married in 1988 and we have 2 children.
Whilst my eldest was a baby I started to study again and gained GCSE’s and A levels. I started work in in a local primary school as 1:1 support for children with additional needs and lunchtime supervisor. I gained my NVQ in childcare and a Foundation Degree in Children and Young People’s Services.
One of the roles I enjoyed the most as a TA was mentoring new members of staff, so I took a position as an Early Years trainer. I enjoyed this role however I missed the school setting and being in the classroom. I returned to my previous setting and became the cover supervisor/family liaison officer, working closely with parents and ensuring children and families felt supported by school.
I gained my BA in child and youth studies and moved on to become Deputy at a local nursery, I have since helped to open a nursery in a local independent school where I ran the Preschool room and most recently, I have managed a before and after-school club in Ashby and Packington.
In my spare time I help to run a local Guide unit, I am the Early Years governor at the school I worked at for many years and we like to take our dog Jasper for long walks.
I am looking forward to joining the preschool team and the larger Smisby family and I hope to bring some of my knowledge and experience to the team.
